91.5% Grade Improvement with Breakthrough Maths

At Breakthrough Maths, we’ve always believed that the right structure, the right support, and the right encouragement can transform how students perform in maths. This year, we put that belief to the test in a survey of Leaving Cert students. Out of more than 300 students who responded, an incredible 91.5% said Breakthrough Maths saw a grade improvement as you can see from the data below.

That’s a powerful result. It tells us that our approach works. But more importantly, it shows that when students feel supported and confident, their potential shines through. Many of our students moved up two full grades between their mock exams and the State Exams: a huge jump that opens doors for college courses, apprenticeships, and careers.

So, what’s behind these results? Let’s break it down.

4 Classes Per Week

One of the biggest reasons our students see grade improvement is the structure of our programme. Every week, we run four online classes, and each class is carefully planned to cover key parts of the curriculum. This pace means we can move through the material in a way that is both comprehensive and manageable.

Instead of rushing through topics, we get the chance to revisit tricky areas multiple times. Algebra, trigonometry, calculus, whatever the year group needs, we cover it. And because students have four chances each week to engage with a topic, they don’t feel like they’ve “missed the boat” if they didn’t understand it straight away.

Parents often tell us that this consistency is what makes the difference. A once-a-week grind just doesn’t compare. By seeing maths four times a week, the information sticks, and students build genuine confidence.

Recordings Available

We know life is busy. Between sports, family commitments, and schoolwork, not every student can make every live class. That’s why all our lessons are recorded and shared with parents and students every Sunday.

This means that if a student misses a class, they don’t miss out. They can rewatch the lesson at a time that suits them, pause and rewind as needed, and even go back to revise a topic in the run-up to exams. For many, this has been a game-changer.

Imagine a student who struggles with functions or logs. With recordings, they can revisit the lesson as many times as they need until it clicks. For parents, it also gives peace of mind. You know your child always has access to the teaching, no matter what. This is an essential tool to achieve grade improvement when they’re struggling.

You can watch an example class of our tutor Eoin going through LC Co-Ordinate Geometry below.

No Pressure in Class

Maths can be intimidating, and too often students feel pressure in the classroom. At Breakthrough Maths, we’ve designed our environment to be different.

There’s no pressure to put your hand up in front of the class. Students can type their answers privately to the tutor, which means they’re not afraid to get things wrong. And if they don’t understand something, we take the time to go over it again.

Our belief is simple: understanding comes before speed. When a student feels safe to ask questions and make mistakes, real learning happens. That’s why so many of our students tell us that our classes feel “relaxed but focused.” It’s a space where they can breathe, learn, and grow. So while grade improvement is great to see, we focus on understanding first.

Results Between the Mocks and LC

The proof is in the results. This year, the majority of our Leaving Cert students went up two full grades between their mocks and the final exams. That grade improvement can mean the difference between missing out on a college course and getting the points they need.

One student told us that before joining Breakthrough Maths, they were stuck at a H6 in Higher Level. By the time June came, they achieved a H4. Opening the door to their dream course in science. Another parent shared that their child’s confidence soared, and for the first time, they actually looked forward to studying maths.

When we look back at the survey, the numbers match the stories. With 91.5% of students saying their grade improved, and only a tiny 2.6% saying it didn’t, the message is clear: this approach works.

More Than Just Grade Improvement

Of course, grades matter. They affect college applications, apprenticeships, and future opportunities. But the impact of Breakthrough Maths goes beyond the number on the paper. Students leave us with stronger problem-solving skills, better study habits, and, most importantly, a belief in themselves.

For parents, seeing that level of confidence in their child is priceless. Seeing a child who once dreaded maths begin to approach it with confidence is a transformation that lasts far longer than a single exam season.

What Parents and Students Say

Of course, we’re incredibly proud of these results, but the voices that matter most are those of the families we work with. Here’s what parents and students have said about their experience with Breakthrough Maths:

Final Thoughts

2024 has shown us what we always knew: with the right structure, resources, and encouragement, students can achieve remarkable grade improvements in maths. Breakthrough Maths isn’t about quick fixes or pressure-filled classes. It’s about steady, consistent support that gives students the tools and confidence to succeed.

So, whether your child is struggling to keep up or aiming to jump to the next grade, know this: they’re not alone. With our four classes a week, access to recordings, and a no-pressure environment, they have everything they need to improve, not just their grade, but their outlook on maths itself.
