Really helped my son’s transition to secondary school and gave him more confidence at Maths.

Very good communication throughout. Our child found it much more engaging than school and made for better understanding of complex topics. Highly recommend.

FAQ’s

Is it a 1-1 grind?

Your grind will feel like a 1-1 grind.

The student can only see the teacher. They interact only with the teacher. The teacher will talk to them infrequently, both in the class and in the chat.

What if my child has a learning difficulty?

Don’t worry, our tutors are well-equipped to teach children of all learning abilities and levels.

We’ve been teaching for years now and have dealt with hundreds of kids with learning difficulties. We take our time with them and make sure they get the extra attention that they need.

What’s the cost of the program?

How do you measure progress?

We provide in-class testing to see how each student is coping with every topic.

Your child’s results are available for you to view after each class and we will also provide you with regular updates via email/Whatsapp.

What age group do you teach?

We offer our Junior Cycle classes to students in 1st – 3rd Year. This includes both Higher Level and Ordinary Level classes for 2nd & 3rd Year.

It doesn’t matter what their maths ability is or how many topics they’re struggling with, we’ll help them out.

How long is each class?

Our Junior Cycle classes run for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

They’re students at the end of the day and school is already long enough, so we don’t expect them to focus for more than that length of time.

Sample notes and worksheets?

At Breakthrough Maths, we have an abundance of sample notes for all levels, years, and topics. Check out some of our Junior Cycle Notes that go over the key topics.

Our students receive Junior Cycle worksheets every week. We have questions on every topic that are fantastic revision before exams.

Do you follow the school curriculum?

Yes, we do. Most schools do the same topic at the same time of the year. We match that teaching plan.

What’s unique about our system is the fact that we offer unlimited classes each week. Each week we will be teaching two different topics. So you have choice in what you would like to study.

What do I need to know for the JC?

There’s a lot to know about the Leaving Cert. With the framework of subjects taught, assessments, grading system, CAO, and different levels, it can seem overwhelming.

I’ve gone and broken down what you need to know in each paper. Here’s all you need to know about paper 1 and paper 2.

What’s covered in class?

For 1st Year students, it can be daunting to move from Primary School into Secondary School so we take our time with them. We start where everyone should: Algebra. The building blocks. Get that right, and everything else starts to click. Then we move onto the other tricky topics like fractions, percentages, equations, area, volume, geometry.

But that is the the warm-up and 2nd Year is where we get moving. We revisit algebra, but more challenging questions like expanding brackets, solving equations, and inequalities. Then we focus on co-ordinate geometry, functions, probability, and stats. We break it all down so it actually makes sense, building on what you know and pushing you forward every week. Confidence goes up. Results follow. That’s the goal.

We hit the ground running for the JC. We start with revision of key topics, then diving into the tough stuff: simultaneous equations, theorems, functions, probability, and statistics. Every class is exam-focused, so they’re prepared for June. We teach you how to tackle tricky questions, and how to manage your time. No messing around. Just results.

Are the classes recorded?

Yes, each class is recorded and the links to the recordings are sent out via email.

How do I cancel?

Send us an email at tj@btmaths.com and we’ll cancel your subscription immediately.

What are the CBA’s?

There are two Maths CBAs in Junior Cycle.

1) A project on a real-world maths problem completed in 2nd Year.
2) An investigation using data collected by the student in 3rd Year. Both are done in class and marked by your teacher.

Students find them pretty confusing so I’ve explained the grading system here.
