How Our Grinds Work Video

Lisa Mintern

Really helped my son’s transition to secondary school and gave him more confidence at Maths.

Nicholas Sheehan

My son enjoyed his classes so much. Met new friends and learned a lot. The environment is fun and engaging. Plenty of support for parents. Would highly recommend.

Weekly Grinds

3rd Year

(HL & OL)

Time: Wednesday to Friday at 12pm

Tutor: Diarmuid

Content: We hit the ground running for the JC. We start with revision of key topics, then diving into the tough stuff: simultaneous equations, theorems, functions, probability, and statistics. Every class is exam-focused, so they’re prepared for June. We teach you how to tackle tricky questions, and how to manage your time. No messing around. Just results.

2nd Year

(HL & OL)

Time: Wednesday to Friday at 12pm

Tutor: Diarmuid

Content: First Year was the warm-up. Now we get moving. We revisit algebra, but more challenging questions like expanding brackets, solving equations, and inequalities. Then we focus on co-ordinate geometry, functions, probability, and stats. We break it all down so it actually makes sense, building on what you know and pushing you forward every week. Confidence goes up. Results follow. That’s the goal.

1st Year

Time: Wednesday to Friday at 2pm

Tutor: Diarmuid

Content: It can be daunting to move from Primary School into 1st Year so we take our time with our younger students. We start where everyone should: Algebra. The building blocks. Get that right, and everything else starts to click. Then we move onto the other tricky topics like fractions, percentages, equations, area, volume, geometry.

The Junior Cycle Explained

Everything You Need To Know

There’s a lot to get your head around in the Junior Cycle. Between multiple subjects, CBAs, exams, and the ever-changing grading system, it can feel like a bit of a maze.

I’ve gone and broken down what you need to know before you take on your Junior Cycle exams. Here’s everything you need to know about the JC.

The CBA’s

There are two Maths CBAs in Junior Cycle.

1) A project on a real-world maths problem completed in 2nd Year.
2) An investigation using data collected by the student in 3rd Year. Both are done in class and marked by your teacher.

Students find them pretty confusing so I’ve explained the grading system here.

Our tutors stay behind to answer any questions on individual CBA’S.

FAQ’s

Is it a 1-1 grind?

Your grind will feel like a 1-1 grind.

The student can only see the teacher. They interact only with the teacher. The teacher will talk to them infrequently, both in the class and in the chat.

What if my child has a learning difficulty?

Don’t worry, our tutors are well-equipped to teach children of all learning abilities and levels.

We’ve been teaching for years now and have dealt with hundreds of kids with learning difficulties. We take our time with them and make sure they get the extra attention that they need.

What’s the cost of the program?
How do you measure progress?

We provide in-class testing to see how each student is coping with every topic.

Your child’s results are available for you to view after each class and we will also provide you with regular updates via email/Whatsapp.

What age group do you teach?

We offer our Junior Cycle classes to students in 1st – 3rd Year. This includes both Higher Level and Ordinary Level classes for 2nd & 3rd Year.

It doesn’t matter what their maths ability is or how many topics they’re struggling with, we’ll help them out.

How long is each class?

Our Junior Cycle classes run for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

They’re students at the end of the day and school is already long enough, so we don’t expect them to focus for more than that length of time.

Do you follow the school curriculum?

Yes, we do. Most schools do the same topic at the same time of the year. We match that teaching plan.

What’s unique about our system is the fact that we offer unlimited classes each week. Each week we will be teaching two different topics. So you have choice in what you would like to study.
