Parent Reviews

Stephen Mahon
My daughter attended weekly classes starting in January for this year’s JC exams. I never had to remind her of classes, which is a testament in itself. I could see her grow in confidence over the weeks.

James McAlister
Very good communication throughout. Our child found it much more engaging than school and made for better understanding of complex topics. Highly recommend.
Example Class
Watch our tutor Eoin teach an Algebra Masterclass for 3rd Years.

What Topics We Teach

For the Junior Cycle, we start with the basics like linear algebra, algebraic fractions, and working with x. This is the bedrock of their maths.
Then we build from there as we cover 2 topics a week. Usually, the harder topics like functions and co-ordinate geometry.
This way, we can be sure to cover everything they need for their exams.
Monthly Maths Masterclasses

Every one of our students gets a free masterclass towards the end of the month.
It’s usually the last Sunday of the month and it covers a complex topic like trigonometry. Or else an upcoming exam such as The Christmas tests or the Mocks.
The masterclasses are usually between 90 mins and 2 hours and we take our time until everyone feels confident in the topic.
How 4 Classes a Week Works

Each week, we run one class per day from Monday to Thursday. 1st Year @ 5:30pm, 2nd Year @ 5:30pm, and 3rd Year @ 6:30pm.
We cover one topic on Monday and Tuesday and another on Wednesday and Thursday.
Most of our students go to 2 classes a week either on Monday or Tuesday and Wednesday or Thursday. That way, they get everything covered. But, if they’re struggling they can go to all 4 classes during the week.
“My grades went up from 59% to 97% in Algebra.”
Proven Results

A survey we sent to 350 of our Junior Cycle students in October 2024 saw 70% of students increase their grades after taking our classes after their mock exams.
This is our 6th year of teaching Maths grinds and we have data available on all our years.
FAQ’s
Your grind will feel like a 1-1 grind.
The student can only see the teacher. They interact only with the teacher. The teacher will talk to them infrequently, both in the class and in the chat.
Don’t worry, our tutors are well-equipped to teach children of all learning abilities and levels.
We’ve been teaching for years now and have dealt with hundreds of kids with learning difficulties. We take our time with them and make sure they get the extra attention that they need.
€149 Per Month
This gives you access to 4 classes per week and our recordings. Plus, your first class is free and you can cancel at any time.

We offer our Junior Cycle classes to students in 1st – 3rd Year. This includes both Higher Level and Ordinary Level classes for 2nd & 3rd Year.
It doesn’t matter what their maths ability is or how many topics they’re struggling with, we’ll help them out.
Our Junior Cycle classes run for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
They’re students at the end of the day and school is already long enough, so we don’t expect them to focus for more than that length of time.
At Breakthrough Maths, we have an abundance of sample notes for all levels, years, and topics. Check out some of our Junior Cycle Notes that go over the key topics.
Our students receive Junior Cycle worksheets every week. We have questions on every topic that are fantastic revision before exams.
Yes, we do follow the Junior Cycle curriculum. Most schools do the same topic at the same time of the year. We match that teaching plan.
What’s unique about our system is the fact that we offer unlimited classes each week. Each week we will be teaching two different topics. So you have choice in what you would like to study.
There’s a lot to know about the Junior Cycle. With the framework of subjects taught, assessments, grading system, and CBA’s, it can seem overwhelming.
I’ve written a post on everything you need to know about the CBA’s here.
For 1st Year students, it can be daunting to move from Primary School into Secondary School so we take our time with them. We start where everyone should: Algebra. The building blocks. Get that right, and everything else starts to click. Then we move onto the other tricky topics like fractions, percentages, equations, area, volume, geometry.
But that is the the warm-up and 2nd Year is where we get moving. We revisit algebra, but more challenging questions like expanding brackets, solving equations, and inequalities. Then we focus on co-ordinate geometry, functions, probability, and stats. We break it all down so it actually makes sense, building on what you know and pushing you forward every week. Confidence goes up. Results follow. That’s the goal.
We hit the ground running for the JC. We start with revision of key topics, then diving into the tough stuff: simultaneous equations, theorems, functions, probability, and statistics. Every class is exam-focused, so they’re prepared for June. We teach you how to tackle tricky questions, and how to manage your time. No messing around. Just results.
Yes, each class is recorded and the links to the recordings are sent out via email.
Send us an email at tj@btmaths.com and we’ll cancel your subscription immediately.
There are two Maths CBAs in Junior Cycle.
1) A project on a real-world maths problem completed in 2nd Year.
2) An investigation using data collected by the student in 3rd Year. Both are done in class and marked by your teacher.
Students find them pretty confusing so I’ve explained the grading system here.
